Back to the Roots - A Trip Home to NC

We left the house at 4:30am on Thursday August 7th to catch our first flight to Dallas and then on to NC! We were so lucky that on both flights the window seat was left open so that Andrew and Tatum could spread out and get some snooze time. Tatum did awesome adjusting to altitude (nursing is the answer to all problems). During our layover we had the great fortune of running into three Tibetan Lamas I know. We enjoyed a nice lunch together, but unfortunately did not get a picture. You'll just have to believe me!

Our first stop was Asheville - our college town and the place where Andrew and I were married. We stayed with our dear friends Brian Shoemaker and Nicole LaChance. Ya'll might remember Nicole as being the gal who caught the bouquet at the wedding. My dear friend Kari Bowling was able to come up from Alabama to join us for the weekend. There's just nothing like drinking PBR and sitting on a porch, I tell you what! Tatum enjoyed life outside the big city.

After two nights in Asheville, Tatum and I snuck away with Kari to stay on her dad's land outside of Asheville. Andrew kept himself busy by arranging a poker night with his boys. Below are pictures of the farm and the bedroom where Tatum, Kari and I slept. Do I need to explain why we love Western Carolina?

On Sunday morning we picked up daddy and met Amy, Kyle and James for breakfast at our favorite spot Tupelo Honey Cafe. We were so into having breakfast and visiting that we did not take any pictures together. Afterwards, we drove down to Charlotte to visit the Littles for two nights. Drew and Ethan were excited to see their cousin Tatum again. On Monday, Aunt Jen had the day off of work, so we were able to put on our suits and enjoy the morning at the pool. The boys were so daring as they jumped off the edge into the pool. One day Tatum, one day...

When we left Charlotte we stopped by to visit Wendy Colombo Pedraza and her darling 18 month old Mia. Wendy was my best friend from middle and high school in Greenville and we haven't seen each other since my wedding day. It was awesome to catch up and share in the blessings of little girls.

Onwards to Greenville - where Tatum met her Grandpa A, Uncle Jarrod and Grandma Great for the first time. We are waiting for Grandpa A to send his photos on to us so that we can upload them here....

Then came the finale - three nights on the Shearer Adventure with Mimi and Boo in Southport. Tatum loved her sleeping quarters on the boat. The marina is located on the intercoastal waterway and each night we were in awe of the beauty that surrounded us.

On Friday we drove down to Myrtle Beach for the day to catch up with the Harris Family, Andrew's sister. Below is a picture of Tatum with her cousin Sophia who is one year older than Tatum. The second pic is one of Tatum and crazy mom posing as Ben and Jerry. We realized that we did not take a family photo of all of us, which I promise to do at Christmas time.

Then came the inevitable flight home. We had a window seat that offered spectacular views of the sunset as we cruised the whole country at 30,000 feet.

We would like to thank each of you who opened your doors to us during our travels and filled our bellies and our hearts. Coming home is always a blessing!

Catching Up

Okay - I'll be the first to admit that I am slow to update this blog; so your patience is much appreciated. The Shearer Family recently returned from a 10-day family and friend tour of North Carolina; however, those pictures will post later this week (hopefully!). In the mean time, I'd like to post some pics from the beginning of Tatum's little life.... so this is a bit of a trip down memory lane....

Born May 20th at 9:34am Tatum Bell came into the world weighing 7 lbs 13 oz.
Our first visitors in the hospital were the Littles (Meg's sister) and the Cohens (our California friends).
Shortly after coming home from the hospital, the grandmommas came out to meet their dear Tatum. Bonnie is known as Lala and Kathy is Mimi!
Then began the long lists of firsts.... first spit up all over Lala, first bath at home, first walk in the stroller, first walk in the sling....
And we continued to have visitors. From left to right: Clay Register, Jenny Garcia, Marc Levy, Aunt Sue Denomy.
